Description
still have a few more to share
The lake and dam were named for the Tenkiller family, prominent Cherokees who owned the land and ferry that were bought for the project. the original name was Tenkiller Ferry Lake. there was a politician running for office with the name of Fourkiller in Oklahoma
I believe they came by with such names because a warrior had killed "x" amount of buck deer or bison. I also heard that years ago what ever was happening when a baby was born, they would associate it by naming the baby

I had a great-grandmother whose last name was Sixkiller. From what I heard, the x-killer names were originally given to warriors who had killed that many enemies in battle.
