Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Great shot of these wasps, they sting more at this time of year as the cold weather comes in. Some years back I witnessed an interesting wasp behaviour of the wooden trellis in the garden... I could hear this scraping noise and noticed it was a group of wasps settled on the trellis using their stingers on the surface, I had never witnessed this before and had no desire to get too close to the event.

Wonderful macro shot of the wasps enjoying a bit of lunch.

Fantastic playground for the wasps. Great capture

Oh, such pretty little people! The one on the left has her motion sensor pointed at you too...it's right on the centerline of her head, and she's sticking her tongue out, too! Marvelous. I've seen fewer yellowjackets this year than I would have liked, but this makes up for that, and what a gorgeous shot. I really like those acorn-shaped fruit-bodies, and the colors are so wonderfully vibrant and alive without being overpowering. This is brilliant.

Oh, you are a courageous one, you are. I'm told they don't like to be bothered. Brilliant image, the detail on the left is stunning.

I only noticed ivy fruiting about five or six years ago. It's lovely, isn't it? Sometimes I feel like I haven't been paying very good attention. It's amazing, the things we see and the things that pass us by. This is a terrific shot. Such detail! Just looking at it makes me happy.
