Description

I'm always mucking about looking for new ways to illustrate stuff, sometimes b&w can get very organic results, despite a certain flattening that goes with it. Since people have been curious about these techniques I will say that rather than being render-made cartoons these are really equal parts DS and Photoshop. The closest I've found to actually successful non-photorealistic rendering without a terrific render farm setup is in Cinema 4D & 3D Studio - but unlike my needs - which are for high resolution print ready finals, that software is better suited to web digitals. So I have to make do by using my skills with Photoshop CS5 and a few inexpensive plug-ins. That said, my basic techniques really only take about an hour or two to get somewhere and can be done without high level skills. I may do a tutorial for anybody interested and for those who use Photoshop. For all graphic artists I will say that even if your final image is for the web - it is always better to work in the highest possible resolution right from the start - you can always throw out pixels, but you can't add any later on. Thank you to everyone that has commented on my artwork and given me encouragement!

very cool illustration with the photo quality B&W and certainly am interested in your approach to achieving this look in PS, think these characters in B&W on a coloured background would be interesting look to explore too, especially if the scene is already in PS.
