Description
While out hunting for the bear and cougar that were making life 'interesting' for home owners, I came across this tree with the metal tag attached:
From the USDA Forest Service is the following:
'A bearing tree contains vertical scribing along its base that is unique to each property corner the tree witnesses,' said Kearney. If a bearing tree is witnessing a property corner for the Forest boundary, the tree will also have a small yellow sign attached to the tree. Kearney said that each property corner throughout the Black Hills can have between two and four bearing trees.
