Kitty, my cat, seemed a bit restless this morning. Being tired and feeling ill, I got up a bit late. After breakfast I went into the bathroom. Unlike his behaviour, Blackie did not rear up in the nearest corner of the cage and stick his nose out to greet me. At first I thought his joint problems were hindering him from moving. As he seemed asleep, I gently blew on him. No response. I called his name. No response. Considering his age, I decided to gently poke him with the flower stick. He was stiff. I took him out - he was still warm. Had I gotten out of bed earlier I would have been with him when he passed on to Rattie Heaven.
2 1/2 years is a good, long life for a pet rat. Blackie (and his cage mates) have taught me a lot about our fellow creatures on this planet. I confess I cried a bit. He will be very missed. Thankfully, I have a whole CD with photos of my little friends.
I spoke to the lady ay the pet shop where I obtained my little fellows. She wants to be kept up to date how her animals are faring with their owners. She suggested maybe a pair in the future. My feeling is if Kitty will accept them as friends and not as toy or food. Time may tell.
So now the story of my rattie pals has come to its inexorable end. Kitty is lying behind the keyboard, snoozing. I'm glad I have her.

We all know these things hurt for a while, for those of us that really cares about animals. I understand mate. Your beautiful cat will keep you in good company for now until you decide if you want to get more ........

Sad story. But Blackie lived the life of Riley with you. So that makes it all good.

Rats can be lovely pets. An ex-girlfriends parents used to run a pet shop and we spent many happy Sundays feeding and playing with the rats they had in store. So sorry you have lost this little fellow. Give Kitty a big fuss - it will help.

So very sorry about your loss. I know this, Blackie and the others died in a home that was filled with love and joy. You gave them all a wonderful and full life. they were blessed to have you in their lives. that CD is going to help you a lot - you'll be able to look back on how their lives changed you and how you helped them Give Kitty a snorgle for me!

Sorry to hear of the loss of your little buddy, my friend. I'm sure he'll find a good place to wait for you at the Rainbow Bridge. Until then, take solace with your kitty - I'm sure she will help to lessen the pain just a little.
