Description

grace, gratefulness, gratitude... (a family moment I liked) Thanks for struggling through that long fiction I just posted. I knew it was long, and some of you are tired or have had a long day. It's an art site, and if you ever don't want to read my long prose, it's fine! And thanks for your constant support, everyone. It makes coming here a joy. Have a fine Friday! (I'll be in your galleries soon) Mark (Please Zoom---it's large, once more!)

It is such a lovely shot, Mark. You already know that I love this. The details on the trees, the parents rushing to kindegarden with the kids. The iron fences around the tiny gardens.... and do I hope you some day will go and take a full shot of that huge tree in the background. Then i will be grateful ;-). Yes, Gratitude is a good word for G :-)

After seeing so many of the photos you've posted of your neighborhood, I feel like I've been there & know it intimately (it probably helps that I've been to Chicago a couple of times (many years ago) & grew up in NYC, which has a similar vibe). This one has all the essential elements of urban life - brick buildings, street signs, traffic lights, trees & of course people, plus a bonus red balloon - all captured with a spontaneity that transports me RIGHT THERE. The one thing I'm not sure if I'm hallucinating or not is that cartoon bear's arm, complete with four pink claws, that's going up the side of the second tree from the left. Is that some kind of weird visual artifact or an art project?

I saw the street sign (which I know says Dearborn) as Reborn. I also saw the sign that says "single family." Those, together with the family walking ahead of you, makes for a bit of gratitude for life, indeed! It's a wonderful addition to the alphabet series. (Don't be silly ... that's what the writer's gallery is FOR!! I'm off to read it again. What a wondrous thing you have wrought!)

Like Claude I feel I'm gaining familiarity with your neibourhood. Somehow this is a very happy photo.

A delightful and colorful moment of the sweet family bundled up against the chill. And I like how you have it framed. Family is certainly something to be very grateful for.

Mark, let me say that you are such a blessing to this community and may you never tire of sharing your marvelous creations and thoughts with us. Only you could present the letter "G" in such a loving manner and find the perfect photo to help illustrate your point. Gratitude is spot on when it comes to describing how this family feels and it is clear a bit of it rubbed off on you because in seeing this moment and capturing it is such an ideal manner, you were actually able to share in a bit of that love. First of all the setting is ideal and while some people prefer photos where the leaves are all still on the trees I think this one is perfect, as the colorful leaves blowing gently all about sets off this scene perfectly. The little boy walking proudly side by side with whom I assume is his Father is clearly in heaven as he clutches to the hand of his loving protector. The little girl (Pink shoes and tufts of hair sticking out from her hat are a dead give away) she is following close behind seeking to match her Dad's strides and doing her best to keep in time with him. She appears to have lost one of her mittens, but most certainly that is not a vital concern right now as she is focused on the moment.

Norman Rockwell, eat your heart out! A splendid image of poignancy you have created here, Mark, in this G segment of your alphabet marathon, with this exquisite tip of the old fedora to urban Americana. Sterling clarity and oil painting effects throughout this winner. A strange sight for me to see, with those bundled up against the cold family members marching down one of the venerable walks in your Chicago, toting their packages, while I exist here in Southern Calif during a warmer than normal and rainless November.

Trees do "Grow" in Chicago...gets me thinking about the 1943 novel by Betty Smith, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". Love the alphabetical series you and several of our other good friends are creating.
