Description
…be sure to wear some flowers in your hair. ~ Scott McKenzie, 1967
The Mormon Church has had a dominant role in the history of Utah since its founding. The Mormon faith calls on its followers to avoid all artificial stimulants. They do not smoke. They do not ingest caffeine. And there is NO ALCOHOL.
It was therefore with some trepidation that I began my adventures in the beehive state. I was pleased and a little amused to find beer and wine readily available in Moab, a town three miles south of Arches National Park. I spent several pleasant evenings at the Moab Brewery, a popular restaurant and microbrewery. In fact, Moab has many things in common with a party town.
When I asked the proprietor of my motel about this he informed me that, while Utah is a conservative state, there are several areas within the state that are quite liberal such as Salt Lake City, Park City and Moab. That explains Eklectica, a small restaurant that looks as if it was plucked from San Francisco in the 1960s and dropped into Moab. Owned and run by women in long comfortable dresses and wearing no makeup, the place has a nice homey feel to it. The menu features twenty different teas, fresh fruits, some vegan dishes and an absolutely killer chicken satay.
I always wondered what happened to all the Hippies.

Definitely somewhere I would fit right in, and it's not very often that happens, I can assure you! Although no alcohol is good, I am totally intolerant of drink and drug induced bad behaviour.

sounds like a great place, and it looks just right. We didn't see this when we were there. I'm sure I would've felt much more at home if I had found it!

So, they have 20 different teas ? - marvelous, but do they also have Rosehip tea ? one of my fav's ;)) I love those hippy-chick places - we have also some in Nimbin Valley, the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, which has also been forgotten by modern times - but boy, do they make some mean old cheeses, especially Goat cheese. nice memories - awakened !
