Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

One can drown if you want to cross the street, but the reflections are beautiful. A great shot!

Well seen and it looks like it's waiting for a car to come along and spray some unsuspecting pedestrian with her dogs !!!

Wonderful looking capture of a very annoying problem. We have a simular problem here. There are some streets in town where there manhole covers in the middle of the road are 2 inches higher than the road. That makes it for poor drainage but even worse is the tire damage they cause every time you hit them.

Great reflection, super pics.

This is where we need to take the idiots on the councils and show them physically what a balls up they have made of their so called "Improvements" Council tax money completely and utterly squandered away on cowboy navvies. Gone are the days of the Irish navvy that really knew his onions. Now they'll employ anything that has lied on a CV to get the job. An actual law has been broken there, "Seeking to obtain a pecuniary advantage" But no one gives a S**T because we are too busy wrapping children in cotton wool and moaning and groaning about Joe public having a fag at the bus-stop. What a country eh? All this rant aside, you captured the essence of our crap weather.

This is what fascinates and frustrates me about the English. I read all of Ron's comment and, although I recognized it as English, I barely understood any of it. I guess the old saying is true, "America and Great Britain - two countries separated by a common language". And now a question for the huddled masses. Does anything think that the placement of the drain was just a coincidence? As for this image, this is a wonderful study in parallel lines. Terrific reflections and textures.

I had an easier time with Ronnie's remarks than Mark did (I knew the word "navvy" from some british friends years back---short for "navigators" originally.) And I get his frustrations. And yours. But as a picture, it's a very complex layered shot. You do lots of fine abstracts with street shots. The water layer---with reflections from above---is fine foil to the exposed---well, what do you call it? Those panels with the bumps that give one more grip? And the layer of pavement above the water, and the street line, etc. A series of layers, with lots of color variation for a rained out sight. This is a real Andrea street shot. Really fine seeing, Andrea, endlessly fascinating.
