Description
- For a long time it was obvious that humanity didn't stand a chance when the artificial intelligence took over. Armies of androids and other robots were quickly getting in the upper hand, and mankind was facing extermination. But a cosmic event gave the people an unexpected second chance. Two huge solar flares in quick succession, in a matter of weeks, made most electronic and bio-electronic devices useless. The robots broke down in huge numbers. No articifical intelligence was prepared for this, no records from the human era existed of similar events, and the focus was on the humans and Earth. The AI control centers were destroyed, rendered useless, being too complex to restore function after the aftermaths of the electromagnetic disturbances had subsided.
Now the remaining robots were plain machines, like in the old days.
In those old days a similar event would have been catastrophic. Now it was a blessing. Was it indeed an act of God? Some would like to think so. In any case there was hope now.
Wandering through the more or less destroyed cities, this couple have found a boy, taking shelter underground in an old electronic lab. He had gathered a lot of broken robots, and obviously taken them apart. He appeared a bit peculiar, but was clearly very smart. In the old days one might have considered a diagnosis in upper end of the autism spectrum, but then again, maybe not. And, as it appeared, he had a few tricks up his sleeve...
Woman/Angelina/Angie:"Look, he's found another one. It's so funny that he doesn't get tired of them. By the way, Arnie, you can take your mask of now, the air is getting cleaner by the hour..."
Guy/Arnold/Arnie:"Well, if you say so...yep, I think you're right, the air is fine. And he can take all the robots he wants, if you ask me. His mind is a gift to humanity. I don't understand how he does it. By studying the architecture of the machines, he's found a way to make complicated calculations - in his head! Without computers or anything!"
Angie:"Yes, it's amazing. Supposedly in the very old days, almost everyone could do that. But it has been forgotten. He's tried to teach me, but I don't get it. I mean, I can put two and two together of course, and ... subtract? I think that's the word..."
Arnie:"But the stuff he can do! I mean, he made an ... equation...he called it, which could tell how many miles we had to walk each day to get here, without getting exhausted or running out of supplies. He told me something like "If this and that, then this and that follows..." and a lot more...it went completely over my head..."
Angie:"I heard it, didn't understand a word. But it works. Just wait till we find the survivor group that should be here, and show them. They'll be extatic..."
Vue render, character setup in DAZ Studio, finishing touches in Photoshop. A lot of customization on the buildings (DAZ/Stonemason).
Thanks for viewing, comments etc. always welcome and appreciated.
Have a nice day,

Wonderfully complex scene Lars with great detail and love the depth. As always your figures are nicely and realistically posed. Unzoomed the figures stand out well against the background, but when I zoom in, I wish there was a bit more light on them from the front..maybe a small fire on the ground in front of them. Just an idea. While I always love your work, one of the things I most appreciate is that you build your scenes around a large number of assets rather then just a single item. I always look forward to seeing your work and your figure posing is always a reminder for me to do a little more with my own.

Thanks, Don. I tend to agree with the lighting on the characters, and I did tweak it a lot in Vue, but boosting the radiosity made the characters look washed out, and simply didn't look good. Skydome lighting gain was up to 2.0, whitish grey, don't want to go higher. I don't like to add studio type lighting in outdoor scenes in Vue, maybe that's just a stupid idea :) I ended up making some shadow-highlight tweaking in Photoshop, helped a bit. It is possible to use the history brush to boost the effect a little more on the characters only, maybe I'll try that. Also I might have to check my monitor settings.

Lot of details, great scene

Wow that's a lot of detritus. Well done details. You may get more striking results with a higher contrast light setup in a scene like this.

Well done!

I agree. A little flat in the lighting area. But the detail and texturing is superb. Your images always have a story to tell and leave me spell bound many, many times
