Description

I was making breakfast for myself this morning when I glanced out the kitchen window & noticed all these sparkling dewdrops hanging from the small manzanita tree in our yard. I grabbed my camera & took a few shots, of which I liked this one the best... Please zoom.

Sensational contrast and composition in this into-the-sun capture. The raindrops are like a train of stars.

Oh, well done! I always love when I see a myriad of droplets sparkling in the sun, but I've never been successful in trying to capture the effect; you nailed it here! Beautiful shot!

Looks like Christmas lights. Intriguing shot as you have a fine rounded bohka in the background which attests to a large aperature yet a star shaped transmission through the droplets that suggests a small aperature. I am guessing this was shot around f9 with the bokah coming from a long way to the background from the tree.

I shot this at f5.6 & you're right that the background was a long way from the tree. Also, I was some distance from the tree, as I shot this at about 35x zoom. I think the sparkling effect was due to the low angle of the sun, which was filtered enough by distant trees to prevent it from washing the image out, but still strong enough to produce the sparkles.

Fantastic capture. Look as if the drops shine themselves.

Oooh, yes, in zoom this thing pops out and shimmers. The sun has made splashes all over it, and the branches, in deep shadow, are like bony hands reaching for the light. Even the bokeh on the left shimmers. A very alive background. But the whole shot is deep dark limbs, whose shapes we know largely from the light that splashes on them, like cream. Beautiful work, Claude. Kudos.
