Description

This statue is situated in front of the entrance to French Sorbonne in Paris. Why is Montaigne's statue feet so shiny ? Touching the right foot of Montaigne is a magic formula guaranteeing exam success (!!) Montaigne's quote : "On the highest throne in the world, we still sit only on our own bottom."

Oh, my! Another beautiful photo. I remember reading his "Essaies". They were in 2 thick paper back volumes. I have tried to obtain them through "La Librairie Francaise" here in Lund, Sweden, but Didier has not succeeded in finding them in such a collection. I, too, touched Montaignes magic right shoe back in 1969! And, yes, I passed my exams! A little studying also helped! Thanks for the photo! Am looking forward to more! :-)

It looks like he's wearing ballet slippers? What a great shot, and I hope the people who've rubbed his foot have got the success they sought!

Wow,Must be better than putting the books under the pillow the night before the exam when one is going to sleep! :) I love this photo, his face looks so friendly! Great POV and light! I am wondering about the branches with leaves at his feet. They seem to be left there by someone. Another tradition perhaps?

J'aurais dû aller frotter ce pied ! je n'aurais peut-être pas été collé...la première fois, au moins. Jolie photo en tout cas.

La citation de Montaigne devrait être méditée longuement par tous les hommes de pouvoir... Superbe photo!

It's always something with the lucky statue thing, isn't it? I like the statue. He looks quite pleasant!

A spectacular POV for this statue and I did not know about rubbing Montaigne's foot. Un POV spectaculaire pour cette statue et je ne savais pas de frotter le pied de Montaigne.
