Description

They're BAAAACK! The magical girl warrior team genre-defining show, "Sailor Moon," has returned after 20 years, and is watchable NOW on hulu.com! Note that it's called "Sailor Moon Crystal" this time, if you're looking for it. THE BAD: It's the same old story. New episodes only come out once every two weeks. The closing credits are absurdly long for no good reason since they don't really have to fill a TV-length timeslot. THE GOOD: The visuals are much improved. It's in widescreen HD. It goes at a much faster pace: the whole team is assembled by the time, in the first show, Sailor Moon has met her FIRST companion. The are no irrelevant monster-of-the-week plots. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY: They really cut down on the slapstick elements. The audio is Japanese with English subtitles. The characters are incredibly tall and skinny, as in the manga. Now, I don't know much about the Japanese language, but I do know that some things are hard to translate. It's weird that a villain yelling "Onore!" gets translated as "You rascal!" *slaps forehead* Also, many English speaking viewers are okay with the word "youma" not getting translated. If anything, I would prefer it be translated as "monster," because in English, "evil" is rarely used as a noun, which is what they went with. But, I'm nitpicking... Also, if you can't get enough of Sailor Venus, the "Codename: Sailor V" manga has recently been translated to English. It's sort of a, um, concurrently produced prequel. Lots of fun! Anyway, go to Hulu and check out the re-imagined "Sailor Moon Crystal." It will give you guys something to watch until the new season of "My Little Pony" comes out. Or Ultimate Fighting Championship, whatevs.

Nice work though don't the Sailors wear gloves too? The evangelicals will be out in force over this I expect. Speaking of evil, in an ironic sort of way.

You're right, I guess they do wear gloves. And their suits have bows instead of ties, and no pockets. And Sailor Moon's hair isn't braided. Oh, well, I was just going with what I had. C'est la vie! (Sailor V?)

the only evil plot twist I can foresee is one where we get a double, bad moon rising when they all moon us! but that will be once in a blue moon! Great scene and interesting narrative
