Description

As she closed her eyes and shut down her exovision routines, Nevara was engulfed by a powerful barrage of sensory data and strangely alien emotion. Moments before, she had been squatting in the desert as she inspected the landing site of Dax’s ship, but now she found herself sitting on the floor of a passageway outside the bridge of a grounded starship, while simultaneously looking down on a raised galley above a wildly fluctuating antimatter core. She attempted, without success, to disentangle the continuous shifts of perspective and make sense of the energy fluctuations as the emotional upwelling threatened to overwhelm her. Nevara could sense the alien mind grappling to control the antimatter core as it threatened to implode, while actively inhibiting the rising panic from a very human source. Suddenly Nevara realised that Dax was trapped in the same maelstrom, and she knew that they both needed to suppress their increasing dread and concentrate all of their faculties on helping the alien psyche regain control of the core… ************** Continuing the story begun in "White Desert", "White Desert II - White Heat", "White Desert III - Hidden" and "White Desert IV - Disappeared".
