Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

WOW! I just woke up, and I NEVER comment when I just wake up, but I saw this and told my brain to get it together, 'cause I can't wait! You're just gonna have to handle some bona-fide gushing, because I luuuv this piece. It's playful, wild, joyful, the whole shebang, but still it also has rigor! Your doodles always have rigor or discipline, whatever word you want: they have cohesion. They're little fugues. Little Bach fuges. I Love how this is a cat---with a crown---but it morphs into a snake, and another of your great little celtic emblems---which is a CLOCK, with two alarm bells---and a caterpillar is snooping around (in blues), and flowers, fans, cherries---you don't need me to list them all---I just love finding them. And is that a 'comma'? you stuck in a comma, for C? Wonderful face, great eyes, I love the layout (love what you did with the place!) and the gold-ish background, like it's a true illuminated piece. It's terrific Andrea, and the wait for each new letter is utterly worth it, because these are little treasure-chests. Ok, no more gushing, I know I gush, but this is wonderful! Zowie! ("...one of the best illuminated manuscripts since the Book of Kells," Dublin Courier-Gazette, "I've been doing illuminated letters since 1102, and I never did anything like THIS," St. Bernard of Clairvaux, a 12th C monk and all around fun guy (trust me, he's fun), "a totally exploratory giddy wonderful addition to illuminated manuscript art," 200 curators from world museums, "incredible! I NEVER get to be in art..." the comma)......I love it!!!

Such an amazing creation. Your creativity seems to know no bounds in these letter drawings.

You have incorporated such a wide subject matter in it's construction! AMAZING! Looking forward to some more of the alphabet! X is going to be a pain, I've seen some of the rubbish in children's learning books for X including Xerus!! A squirrel like rodent everyone knows, well almost everyone, well one or two, actually nobody I know!

Fabulous, love this art that you do.

I was going to use all those 'C' words now I shall have to Concede !! Very nice work.

I have just one question. Did you illuminate medieval manuscripts in a previous life? A stunning work of art and quite true to life. I've known cats who could stretch and curl just like this. Personally I like the subdued colors of the photo but the bright colors in the scanned image are more faithful to the medieval style.

This is all quite new to me, I trained as a potter and also inherited some of the skills of my Jewish tailor father. But I confess to being a dilettante!

I do so love these pieces you create, the freedom in the technique, no constraint and great palette too.

Stunning! I would love to have your illuminated alphabet mounted and framed, it would be an endless wonder to behold!

Very well done my friend and so many "Cs" included. The cat's face and claw are my favorite parts!

And the bracelet ... I assume it's cinnabar? The design down the letter that looks like a weaver's shuttlecock is wonderful. Such a strong design element, and it's a nice counterpoint to all the curves of the C. Love it!

It's a most artistic C I could imagine ever. Again a top drawing, which I admire very much, Andrea!
