We have two Bougainvillea bushes on our property. The thorns are very sharp and are all over the bush. I have to wear leather gloves to trim them. The actual flower of the plant is small, .25 inches (.6 cm) and generally white, but each cluster of three flowers is surrounded by three or six new growth leaves with the bright colors associated with the plant, including pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow. As the colorful leaves turn green - the flowers fall off. Bougainvillea are relatively pest-free plants. This will zoom and the flower on the far right is the sharpest.
