Description
This is another scene from my novel I decided to design this particular scene as I really enjoyed it in the final work. What follows is part of that scene:
“Reaction laser to full charge, and ready to fire on manual control.” The reaction laser would be the spark to ignite the reaction and if all went well the reaction would go critical and be self sustaining. Or she would die in a nuclear fireball and look rather stupid. She tapped her claws against the decking as the reaction rose steadily towards critical mass and the chances of a problem grew. She had to keep making small adjustments to the rods and the coolant to keep both levels within range of each other. Both screens shifted to a bright yellow, from the deep red when the reaction started.
“Everything is going fine, this will work...” She muttered adjusting coolant again. Minutes passed and Caerwyn's heart pounded in her chest as a status light warned her that she was nearly to critical status. Her fingers flexed and her knuckles popped, her claws extended and retracted several times.
All screens went green and she pressed the laser activation command. Rich deep blue light exploded from the reactor filling the entire bay in a blue glow. The sound of a whine rising in pitch sounded and ended suddenly with a roar that staggered Caerwyn and would have forced her eyes closed if not for the burning light. She grabbed hold of the bulkhead and forced her eyes open and was nearly overcome with majesty. The reactor had turned into a glowing blue sphere that pulsed with blue light and a low hum. She rubbed her eyes to read her display.
