Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Fantastic post work and interesting information about this style of candelabras. Thanks for sharing Andrea.

It's lovely, especially against the window. There are little bits of differences that break in to the symmetry and make it less formal, and those little differences give the image life and movement. Wonderful!

You never cease to surprise. A beautiful backdrop for this menorah.

Lovely postwork and a perfect spot in that window. I just glanced across the lake and I can see 3 Menorahs - 1 in orange and 2 in blue!

Excellent creation!

A very nice piece of work. Perhaps you should do it again with lighted candles.

Nice shot well aligned with the window, unlike you I don't mind symmetry in things but then I don't mind If they are not either.

It's a wonderful almost stained-glass presentation of the daily menorah. (I also really like the menorah itself---it's so simple and spare.) Your edge work makes the background seem like panes of stained glass. And the menorah's presence is wonderful, esp when zoomed---its spindly silhouette is balanced by how it takes over the window! Yeah, I've read about the planetary interpretation of the menorah. Some also say the prongs represent the 7 days of the week, and the biblical number 7, period (ie, 7 days of creation, 7 weeks before pentecost, 7 months before the jewish new year---originally the 'sabbath of months', and a time of reflection and commemoration---7 years for sabbath of years ((the sabbatical)), 7 sabbaticals for the jubilee---and after that, no one really cares since it's a lonnnnng ways off...) The passage in Torah that prescribes the menorah leaves one dizzy with detail (on the bowls, the oil, and so on---there're probably 2 or 3 "cubits" in there, though I haven't read it in 20 years) (you gotta have a "cubit" if you're in the bible, btw---it's one of the requirements for getting in...). Your image feels like it's in a rectory or a study or some place of contemplation. I really like your treatment---very contemplative. Nice that you posted a menorah before your Christmas wish: Both traditions side by side...

Amazing work Andrea. God bless.

I love this placement; the symmetry is very poetic and not at all off-putting to me. Lovely bit of fiddling!

A beautiful Menorah :-) Became a lovely shot. I have a tiny one myself, but not as elegant as this one. :-)
