Description
Volume II - Episode 86
Where: Cologne, Germany
When: 1 month and 13 days after E-Day, 1:51 am
There were days when Private Garlen Bruley could scarcely believe his luck. Growing up in Malpass, a small village outside of Bordeaux in southern France, his father hadn’t even allowed him to borrow the family Peugot to drive to the local shops for a pack of cigarettes. And now here he was, entrusted with a multi-million Euro, state-of-the-art armoured personnel carrier.
Well, this has been a strange day, he thought to himself while watching the Ancient disappear through the Veil with his trolley-full of magical supplies. Garlen gave one last glance up at the Veil towering over him, then returned to the APC. His APC.
An explosion echoed through the streets - a reminder of the battle his comrades were fighting against the Hexenjägern just a few blocks away.
He had to hurry.
He peeked into the APC’s passenger compartment while closing the hatch. “Ca va?” he asked. How’s it going?
The boy sat silently on the left-hand seat, his hands held calmly in his lap. He didn’t respond.
Garlen took a step forward. “Désolé, je ne parle pas allemand,” he said apologetically. Sorry, I don’t speak German.
No response.
Garlen took another step closer. “Ca va?”
And that was when he noticed the boy’s glazed and lifeless eyes...and the blood pooling at his feet.
