Description

These colorful mushrooms reminded me of the flowing skirts of flamenco dancers. Taken at Rogue River Gorge...

I actually studied some flamenco guitar--I wasn't very good at it, but I wanted, like crazy, to do all the things that flamenco guitarists did. It's a flaming art, and yes, these big mushrooms look like flamenco skirts. Your detail in the lines and layers is geode-like, it's jewel like. And the contrasts of those saturated oranges and reds with those deep blues, and the other hues of the ground around them, is really strong. You often get the 'detritus' too, in these nature closeups----ie, the spots and dots of life, like the small mushroom on the right top, with those little dots around it (I assume bits of mushroom growth, or maybe just mold): There's a lot going on all around these skirts. And the left side is filled with fascinating webwork and leaves. You do some of the most intense closeups of nature I've seen. This could almost be a vast mineral spill, it's really beautiful. And the deep reds, purples and blues make it feel like a jewel furnace, if that image makes sense. Ie, like the ultra compressed place where jewels are turned out in the furnace of nature. Quite beautiful.
