A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

Yeah the hard shadow from that pop up flash is right here, but as you say, it's all you have, could have used a reflector I suppose, but wriggly little ones have not the patients to stay still eh? I'd say you got a good shot in spite of the pitfalls Melinda. What a nifty idea to make the photo album, they'll have a good precious memory. Great shot of the little one. Crafty tip. don't rush out to buy a reflector, hit your home depot store for styrofoam ceiling tiles :) they work great.

Or even a piece of white card will do too. Yes, you did well here, poor baby just doesn't like bright light I guess. I'm the same way ;)

You can crank the ISO up WAY more than 400 on your 70D and not use the flash. Try about 1/500 and f5.0 and raise your ISO until the picture in the display looks bright enough. You'll be amazed by the quality of shot you'll get in natural light! Aside from the techie-blah-blah ... it's a great shot. What a cute pose! :)

Squirmy models are the best, actually. I like em. They're such a fun challenge and so the compose-as-you-go routine can be fine tuned and yield some amazing results, like this! I love this shot and as I have so much catching up to do, this is a good place to start. This is great and it's even better as it's in black and white. This is wonderful.

Please, if you insist on taking photos of me, then no more blinding flash shots, especially with my newborn eyes! I see bright spots. Gimme a break, why don't ya! Otherwise, Melinda, nice closeup capture of your nephew.
