Description

yesterday was rough for me, my little friend died. He got his water, sugar water, molasses and even peanut butter, but he died never-the-less. Here please find what makes him fearsome.

Thankfully, and I do mean THANKFULLY, this is a macro. Can you imagine what damage this wasp/hornet could do if he were actually this size? Great capture and I offer my condolences

You made a great image that shows how hard the attack can be. It's a real monster seeing this macro.

Beautiful job. This shown several things - the bottom plate below the stinger is not a hard solid. It folds, revealing the muscle inside the rear and attachment of the stinger to those muscles. The poison sack is visible. The upper rear plate is seen from the inside. He seems to be hollow in the rear. The construction of the stinger is clearly visible. Need I mention hairs, subdivision of hind legs and claws? This photo is fantastic with its detail, both external and INTERNAL. I'm sorry to hear he didn't survive. I wonder why. However, this gives you a marvelous opportunity to take him out, place him on a good surface and take loads of macro photos from different angles so we can see how fantastic a construction a little fellow like this actually is! Good luck with it! Looking forward to more educational macro photos! :-)

Wait, he was a friend? I'm terribly sorry he's gone. He must have been a good friend considering he didn't sting you! Fantastic shot!
