Description
This mystical bird is an albino Barred owl. She lives at another rehabbers house. I went to see her one time. When I saw how miserable she is, I tried to talk her out of the owl. Did not happen. She takes this poor bird to wildlife shows and is given lots of donations because of the unusual look of the owl.
I have long made it a practice not to keep any wild animal in a cage for "educational" reasons if that animal can not adapt to captivity. I believe it is kinder to put the animal down if it can not live free, and if it never adapts to cage life. This beautiful owl was taken in as a young adult. It had a heavy load of parasites and was too weak to fly. Yes, I know albino animals have a tougher time, but that is no reason to put them in jail. This poor owl, after 6 years, is still terrified of people. Her cage is only 5 ft x 8 ft and 6.5 ft tall. she can not really fly in it. I still believe that it is better for such an animal to live 1 day in the wild, than 15 years in jail. Yes, she could live another 10 or more years. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do for her. It is sad that an animal needs to be rescued from the person that is to help it.
I don't go there any more.

What a beautiful bird, If its got to stay captive they could a least give it a very big space to live in.

Ooohhh... those red eyes, like drilling into one's soul! I wonder what the owl is thinking? The way it looks, I wouldn't want to have an encounter with it. Considering it's living situation I assume it has more or less given up. It knows no other life. Poor bird. All because it lacks a gene for color. Beautiful, but tragic photo. I hate to say this, but how did it react to you? I'm thinking that maybe your visits were the only bright spot in its existence - a friendly stranger breaking the monotony of imprisonment. (No smiley today - poor fellow)
