Description

Well, this is officially the first insect macro taken at my new home. After my shots of the bubbles in the spa (my last post) I wandered about the yard and spotted this handsome fellow on a small plant the past owners had planted. A Spotted Bush Katydid Nymph. I have seen these before (even think I have another shot of one in my gallery long ago) but, I have only seen them extremely small. This looks by my guess to have gone through a couple more molts than those I have seen before. About the length of a thumbnail (not counting those crazy long antennae). Such attractive insects. It will grow to about 2 inches or more in length and should be mostly green, though it will likely keep its piercing red eyes. Thanks for looking and any comments you want to leave. -Bruce

Good on you for knowing the critters that you are photographing. I think your knowledge of their biology is helping to make you such a natural insect photographer. It really helps to know your subject.
