This portrait was inspired by the TV-series 'Defiance', which I watch for the moment & who gives me a lot of good ideas for my new sci-fi renders!

The story begins in the year 2046. Earth has been radically transformed, causing changes in topography, the extinction of plant and animal species, and the emergence of new species. The series follows Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his adopted Irathient daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), who have put down roots in Defiance, a city-state community where humans and several extraterrestrial races, collectively known as Votans, coexist over the partially re-built ruins of St. Louis.

In einer nahen Zukunft hat ein über Jahre andauernder, interstellarer Krieg zwischen verschiedenen Alienrassen und der Menschheit das Erscheinungsbild der Erde, wie wir sie kennen, für immer verändert. Langsam beginnen sich die Überlebenden beider Seiten von den verheerenden Folgen zu erholen. Durch verwüstete, lebensfeindliche Landschaften wandert der mysteriöse Nolan. Das Schicksal führt ihn nach St. Louis, das er im ersten Moment nicht wiedererkennt. Bis auf den Gateway Torbogen wurde seine ehemalige Heimat komplett zerstört und auf ihren Trümmern eine neue Stadt errichtet. Defiance ist ein Zufluchtsort für Aliens und Menschen gleichermaßen, die nun lernen müssen, neben- und miteinander zu leben – ein alles andere als leichtes Unterfangen. So ist es an Bürgermeisterin Amanda, den noch jungen Frieden und die Ordnung in Defiance zu erhalten. Fest entschlossen tut sie alles dafür, der Stadt und ihren Bewohnern beim Wiederaufbau zu helfen und sie zugleich vor äußeren Bedrohungen zu schützen.

Dans un futur proche, des extraterrestres appelés les Votans arrivent près de la Terre dans l'espoir de pouvoir s'y installer. Leur système solaire a été détruit et ils n'ont pas d'autre choix que notre planète. Restés en orbite pendant six ans de négociations infructueuses avec les gouvernements terriens et leurs réserves presque épuisées, les Votans déclarent la guerre aux humains. Cette guerre va faire beaucoup de dégâts sur les vaisseaux de terraformation Votans, entraînant une transformation radicale de la planète devenant dangereuse autant pour les humains que pour leurs ennemis. Après trente ans de guerre, le monde a changé, humains et Votans apprennent à cohabiter.
Les conflits terminés, Jeb Nolan revient en 2046 dans sa ville natale de Saint-Louis désormais rebaptisée Defiance. Ancien militaire dans l'armée humaine, il devient gardien de l'ordre dans ce mélange d'humains et de toutes sortes d'extraterrestres. Il va tenter de protéger la ville contre les affrontements entre humains et extraterrestres, mais aussi contre les menaces extérieures et militaires.
