Description
This was painted for Blizzard Entertainment's BlizzCon 2014 Fan Art Contest. Initially it was just going to be a pretty standard portrait, but I decided I wanted to give the image a bit more depth so I added the fairy and played up the details in the environment as much as I could. The detailing for this piece was very time consuming, but I wanted to make it as refined and detailed as I possibly could. Overall, I'm quite pleased with how this image turned out.

this is a beautiful work of art, I do like it.... but... there is always a good with the bad. I feel If I point your attention in areas that I see, you'll see it too and it will make you a better artist - no, I'm not a know it all, but I am a helper, I doing this to help you see what others do. So, lets dive into the picture. Where would you like to go? Center. most images the eyes go straight to the center and span out... your picture is classically centered - nose is dead center, the ends of the eyebrows end in the center of the ears.... the Nose gets a huge jump of attention at first sight. Stare at it. notice it is a 3D model and how the lighting shows all the detail.... this is a huge problem for the rest of you image - because the eyes were drawn to so much detail.... now, lets go to the eyebrows - they look drawn on, like drawing a mustache on a picture - your eye is now confused and is searching the rest of the image to determin is this hand drawn, 3D, a cut and paste??? The body looks painted with a different skin color than the rest..... You've got so many styles of soft, detail, color, lighting, etc... going on here it actually looks pieced together by many artists because so many things don't match up.... Remember, I'm telling you this to help you see it - when you see it, you can fix it...... now, since you did enter this in a contest, you want it to look like one person put this together.... until you fully see what I'm talking about, there is an easy fix.... go into your paint program and slap some filters on it - one of my favorites is plastic = it just makes everything pop, but you need a filter that will sharpen and dull your edge lines - that's where most of the laws are broken in this image.
