Description
Pictured is a flight of early French Air Force Dewoitine D.520 fighters harrying a low altitude formation of Bf-110's.
The French-made Dewoitine was blandly described by the British commander of the Royal Aircraft Establishment's Captured Enemy Aircraft Flight, as a "... nasty little brute. Looked beautiful but didn't fly beautifully....". Elsewhere as compared to the bf-109 an equally unimpressive assessment was "a fighter of sleek design and acceptable capability". Still, the Dewoitine was France's best available fighter and although underpowered could out-turn the bf-109 in a fight even though it showed some nasty and undesirable characteristics when coming out of a turn or a spin. A record of 114 kills and 39 probables kept the D.520 on the roster throughout the war, flying with France, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Romania, Free France and Vichy France.
It may not be as distinguished as some, it did play its role and as always, the best pilots got the best results.
Dewoitine D.520: Beautiful model shared generously for free by Luciene_Lillippe available in the free section here on Rendo. Some wear and tear added.
Bf-110G: A classic from Touchwood, beautiful and versatile model available from Ontarget3d. Roughed up a bit down in the secret hanger.
Pilot: Daz's M4, ADH3d's USAAF pilot gear and the rest borrowed from here and there. With additional texture work.

A full sky but in the moment of encounter it looks like this. Then the bunch breaks away and the fighting aircraft against aircraft begins... Well done.

A busy scene displaying the unusually shaped Dewoitine D.520 - and interestedly paired with another unusually shaped aircraft, the Bf-110, which is a favourite of mine. What would we do without these characters of the skies to keep us amused and enthralled over the years!

Probably sit around throwing rocks at one another.

Bill, the Dewoitine was the only "good" french fighter in 1940. Nice render of this forgotten airplane.

Great composition !!!

Very cool initial pass image.....for all it's short comings the D.502 was not lacking in punch. Production 'standard' armament for the Dewoitine was four 7.5mm wing mounted machine guns and a 20mm HS404 cannon firing through the propeller hub.

Brilliant render! One of best!!! The RAF had the 'honour' of mixing it on at least two occasions, both times they flew with Vichy French hands.. That said, they DID shoot down Seafires! (Navy Spitfires). So, don't underestimate average.. GREAT JOB! Rob
