Description
My wife discovered this young rattlesnake in our tool shed this morning. As much as I hate to kill any living thing, I didn't feel that my wife & I & our two cats would be safe with it around, so sadly I killed it right after I took this photo (one of our neighbors was bitten on the leg by a baby rattler a couple of years ago & spent 3 very painful days in intensive care)...

and it is the babies that are the deadliest in that they cannot control the amount of venom they inject Very beautiful photo and yes, a shame it had to die

We are lucky in the UK that we only have one snake with any venom and they are more scared of us than the other way round.

God mate! Did you shoot it? Great shot.

No, I smashed it with the edge of a shovel - it was very quick, just took a couple of seconds.

Sad to kill it, but I agree, better it should not be around to threaten you. Wonderful capture!

An excellent shot. Such a visitor I also wouldn't like to have. Fortunately, there are in Germany only harmless snakes.

Yeah ... you can't have these lurking around. It's a beautiful creature, and a marvelous photograph.

your photo is actually a tribute to the amazing beauty of the creature. No questions about having to kill it, it can be deadly; and as it lurks in secret places, you don't have much of a choice. The photo shows how well it blends into its environs, and its amazing ability to curl itself upon itself. Fine photo, as if you'd studied it a while and posed it, which of course you didn't or couldn't. Fine work on a beautiful creature.
