Description

(For those of you fortunate enough not to have done Latin at school, Vale meaning Goodbye is pronounced vah-lay) Today after eleven months off the road the old Volvo went to the knackers. It lost its novelty attraction as a garden ornament some months ago. When new in 1993 it cost £36K. When I bought it in 2004 I paid £350, and drove it for 10 years. It passed the MOT every year but in 2013 started doing an occasional unexpected gear change without being asked. So last March I replaced it with my present Volvo which is a 1994 model but in much better health, but cost me rather more loot, £730. I hope it sees me out! By the way, the plural of vale, when saying goodbye to more than one, is valete, .Just in case you needed to know!

Really neat collage of the Volvo! These cars are known to be powerful and durable. Beautiful colours of the background too! :) Happy trails to the old, and on with the new!

Interestingly, I have fond memories of this car, it took us to good places :) The only bad memory is when it helped pop my newly fixed hernia, being 6 feet 4 and a half in that back seat was hell hehe!

aahhh...what a fitting tribute to an old faithful friend. May your new car serve you at least as well.

Sic transit Gloria mundi. The body looks to be in good shape. Perhaps someone will resurrect it. While I love my new car I sometimes think of my little 1977 85 HP Datsun. I had it for 33 years. I used to joke that I would get on the freeway on Tuesday night and by Wednesday morning would have reached freeway speed. You gave your old horse a fitting sendoff here.

Wonderful series of pictures! I'm glad you are one who believes in using something until it can no longer do the job, in this case, safely. Rather than trade in every year or other year for the latest and greatest. Looks like you kept the Volvo pristine.

The last car I bought on my own was in 1992, and I drove it until 2011 when it became surplus to requirements. It was still in great shape, and I sold it to a young woman for a fair price. Everybody walked away happy. :) It's nice to have fond memories of something that worked as it should and served you well!
