Description
Every now and then, I come across people that restore my faith in humanity. This rather fat groundhog is at the door of her new home. The people that live here are the Mayor and his wife in a small town. They found 3 orphaned raccoons several years ago and have been friends and supporters of my work since. They love animals and wanted me to bring this group of groundhogs to their house in the country for release. Hickory moved in under their stone porch, the others found homes close by. Hickory is provided with all the fresh veggies, whole wheat bread and fruit she can eat. They get rather odd looks at the market when they buy broccoli by the flat several times a month! He just tells them the kids eat healthy........Anyway, Hickory is provided fleece blankets for winter to hibernate, and does a fine job of shoving out the trash from bedding and meals. The Mayor is in charge of picking up the trash and disposing of it. I do believe she has it made!!

AH! Groundhog! Got it! Looks like a really nice critter to have around. My, I now have to look 'em up on the Internet and read about them. But best are your comments and observations - from real life and personal interaction. The way it should be. My hat's off to that mayor! With a guy like him, she sure has it made! Beautiful photo, Bev. Now I have a very good idea of what these creatures look like! I wonder about their personalities - do they bite? Scratch is obvious, claws for digging! Keep up the good work! :-) I think I'll have an open zoo in my next life!
