Rows of naked trees and parked cars, and one brave soul walking really adds to the desolate mood. Even the holiday decoration looks un-festive.

When I hear the word desolation, I think of "Desolation Row". Judging from the buildings & the cars, this is far more upscale than that funky part of town. This has an interesting bleached out look, though, that takes a little bit of the gloss & polish off...

Oh, this is so utterly cool (pun unintended). A high key image without even trying! Lots to like here: a winter ambiance of barren trees, depth as far as the eye can see, perspective, quasi repetition, although, by golly, the street is so narrow that two way traffic must be super careful going to and fro, even during the warmer months.

I don't find this the least bit desolate, I find it so exciting; walking out and seeing everything in natural high-key makes me come alive. This is gorgeous!

Well Mark, tonight I am actually looking to focus on the positives around me and am studying this image intently. Of course upon first glance there is a desolate appearance all around, mostly due to the intense lighting, dreary sky and bare trees as far as the eye can see along with an abundance of automobiles. However I'm willing to bet when the trees come to life, the sky is blue, the sun is shining, and people are mingling all about this could be a wonderful area. I think that is how some of the developers look at areas in the big city where almost everyone has lost hope. They see the potential the area has and have a vision in their minds of what it could be. There are countless places all across the states where caring cities make this the case every day. I know in Oklahoma City they purchased most of the downtown years back and literally turned it into the focal point of the city, where everyone wants to be. Can you imagine what the right person with a caring vision could do to this place.
