Description

Same Goliath Birdeater Tarantula as yesterday, but from the side. For some reason I find this view a bit more threatening. Maybe because you can more clearly see her intense gaze or maybe because I was even closer to her, This girl has a bit of a reputation. One of the new volunteers, who considers himself a bit of a big man and all round expert on anything with more than four legs had her out on his hand and was telling the Director and a group of visiting dignitaries that Tarantula's are really just big pussy's and that they never bite unless you really provoke them. Well just as he said that she decided she had enough of being on display and let it be known. She nailed that sucker full on with her fangs! Much to his credit he barely winced, but quickly got the spider off him and back into his cage. Then he excused himself, made a hurried exit to the med station and only then did he let loose with a full on shriek. Turns out this Tarantula is a bit of an unruly teenager and does not like being man-handled so to speak!

Never make fun of tarantulas! The eye is kind of menacing, but personally I found the earlier shot a little creepier. Both are dramatic in the way you've cropped them to reveal only a small portion of this creature & left the rest to our imaginations...

A great (and somewhat creepy) close-up, Roxy! Wonderful detail in the shot. Actually, I think she probably took umbrage at being called a pussy.......hehe "Pussy, is it?? Well pussy this, ya buttmuncher...." CHOMP!

This is fantastic! Your camera rocks! How many megapixels is your camera? My friend had a Tarantula when we were teenagers, I tried to hold it but it creeped me out too much, he used to hold it all the time , it never bit him or anyone else who held it. but sadly it got loose one day and the cat killed it by pulling off one of the legs.
