Description
"Though long had Bethany's grandfather heralded her with tales of strange creatures and fireflies beneath the waves, she never thought them more than children's tales. She was quite surprised when diving for the wreck of her grandfather Howard's boat to come face to face with creatures far more fantastic than she ever imagined. They seemed to be circling and dancing in the depths around a great chasm, some almost humanoid looking from the waist up, other's wholly alien. They glown and radiated with an eerie, ethereal energy as they undulated and swum. Bethany could almost make out patterns in their movements, ritualistic, almost like the mad dancing of ocean beasts. Slowly, menacing dark shapes began to emerge from the chasm, stretching out and growing ever longer. They bore a resemblance to the pseudopod of a great cephalopod, but there was something disturbing and unholy about them. Bethany watched, transfixed from a place in the nearby choral, the fear and curiosity combining to paralyze her. Her mind suddenly reeled at the prospect of being discovered as one of the sea folk moved toward the reef, almost as if it sensed her..."
Not at all the level of Detail, resolution, or render quality I wanted, but as it is this took 5 days to render with the depth effect and IDL for all the luminous fish folk. I had to add a bit of ambient to the water-fog effect to prevent absolute black and it threw off my lovely bio-luminescent merfolks. I need a more powerful machine. Only very minor color correction and watermark added in post - this is essentially as rendered. Lots of legacy content here.
