Description

A present from my new student lodger, Hanyu, who is studying Digital Effects at BU. It was very kind of him and I am very touched by the thought. It is a tradition at Chinese New Year to give these red envelopes containing money. You can read all about it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_envelope. The front has a portrait of Mao Zedong,

while a picture of the Great Hall of the People is printed on the reverse.

When you mentioned an envelope I thought you might be referring to the Oscars which are on Sunday. This is much better. The Chinese have a wonderful sense of design, even in something as simple as an envelope. A wonderful gift from your tenant, a little over ten pounds.

Yeah we make a big fuss of it at the school where I work. Everyone comes to school dressed in red! We have a sister school in China that grade 6 students visit each year.
