Description

Deteriorating barracks on Angel Island in San Francisco Bay. I've posted photos of the structures on Angel Island before with details about it's history, so I won't go into it again except to say that it was an immigration station where over a million Asian immigrants were detained, interrogated & treated very badly, some of them for months & even years. The bright sunshine seems to me to run counter to what should be the somber mood of this scene, but there it was, so that's what I shot & I decided not to try to transform it into something else... Please zoom.

I think this is a fascinating photo, especially with the contrasts on which you comment. It is like a stage set

Very cool photo - given the circumstances, the fact that their desire to come to America to escape whatever they faced is still a brightness in their lives even if they faced the BS that was handed to them here.

The sunlight makes this into a wonderful abstract of jagged lines and colour opposites; well done!

something fitting about the decayed and layered destruction of this image, given what it was and how many people it effected badly. As an image, I embrace the sun, because it brings out the layers as a flat in your face 'statement'. Or just an onslaught. The light in the back---a door with saturated whites, a window (or higher door) with eerie gold-yellows---makes one feel this is a journey to a place of real intensity, whether good or bad. And the composition definitely is about peering in. Great textures and contrasting hues. And that squiggly line in the wall, back there, separating the bricks above from the broken rock/plaster below, is very powerful. Another power-filled architectural shot from you, which looks like the history it represents.
