Description
To commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First world war an art installation was created by the artist Paul Cummins and Tom piper (responsible for setting), using the Tower of London as the back drop.
Within the moat surrounding the Tower of London 888,246 ceramic red poppies was progressively planted by volunteers throughout the period of July to November 2014, with the last poppy being planted on 11 November (Remembrance Day). Each poppy represented a British/Colonial serviceman lost in the war.
I visited this installation periodically throughout its creation - and it was a sight to behold. This pano was taken in September so it wasn't completed. In addition to the filled moat there was two other features to this installation. One was the 'Weeping window' which can be seen in this pano, the other was the 'Wave'. The latter I hope to show in a following pano.
I feel this was a fitting way to commemorate such a significant event...Never forget...
Many thanks for viewing!!
