Description
As dark and dreary days drag on,
my idle mind dwells upon
longer days with warmth and sun -
winter isn't any fun.
I could go walking I suppose,
freeze my toes and frost my nose,
slip and slide on icy walks...
no wonder my ambition balks!
My thoughts to visit Walmart
on second thought seem unsmart,
I'd buy something I don't need -
maybe I'll stay home and read.
Perhaps I could clean or bake,
sort a closet, make a cake -
neither sparks my interest,
guess it's best that I just rest!

Written a long time ago, partially inspired by an illustration I saw of a guy passed out in his lazy boy chair with a dropped book he was trying to read while winter snows away outside the window. But since I can't post that, here's a sleeping cat! ;)

Gotta love the sleeping cat. I suppose there is something to be said for warm summer days, who wouldn't want them. But, just from another angle. I live in the desert, and this entire winter... and almost every winter, I am never out of short sleeve shirts. And this winter has been so warm I've had to wear a hat to keep from burning. That would seem nice, right? Not really, I actually envy those with the cold and bitter winters. I have no spring, no sudden burst of life from the sleeping and frozen ground. -nothing to appreciate- just endless warm days broken by the occassional rain. I've lived long enough out here in the desert now to realize, you can't truly cherish summer without the winter. I remember as a child, the cold wet days, and frozen toes, and snow storms. And I remember when one day, quite suddenly the snow began to melt, the Cherry Blossums bloomed, and then perfect days of fireflys and tall green grass. Yes, ... the grass is always greener on the other side.

Have to agree with wolfenshire, I live in Northern Minnesota one of the coldest places in the world minus a few exceptions. I don't care much for the cold but it gives a break from all the gardening and yard work my husband and I do and then the fall canning. And I do love spring, the rainy days to walk in the wonderful fresh smell, the geese coming to nest in the pond, and then summer hits a bit too hot for me but needed for a good garden, our summers are worse than a lot of hotter dry areas because of our humidity, I have been to hotter states that seam cooler because of lack of humidity. Your poem is wonderfully said though, very well written and has a nice flow, great job.

Winter is great up to a point. Snow is pretty and hibernating is fun ;) But freezing and slipping on ice isn't and eventually being snowed in gets old and you get restless. The unbearable heat and humidity in August gets old too though so ya grass is always greener.

Each season has its good point and BAD. I guess it is a matter of how you view them and what you can do to deal with them. Great verse and wonderful capture of the kitteh

I wouldn't want to live where the seasons don't change. I think I would go crazy. Besides, how would I ever complain about how it's too hot or too cold??? LOL We are never happy with what we have. I suppose it's human nature. Love the flow of your poem.....it could be a song.
