Description

Dan (Diemamker) was the first to nail it! Knut (Knupps) and Mike(faemike55) confirmed it. Ray (sidherosegraphics) and Richard (richardphotos) were really close, aside from naming the actual model. ;-) Yep. I bought one. This is the new DJI Inspire 1, and what an awesome machine it is! This is probably the most sophisticated drone available for consumer sale. It's camera shoots 4K video, and has a 3-axis stabilized gimbal for cinematic-quality video and 12 MP stills with little to no fish-eye distortion. In the second photo, it's sitting next to the Phantom (which I hope to upgrade with a 3-axis gimbal at some point). I've been studying this drone since it was announced by DJI - and drooling a lot... So I finally broke down and ordered one. And 'broke' is what I am right now! LOL (not really, but that's the last big purchase for a while..) These are being snapped up by everyone form hobbyists to movie studios - within an hour after I ordered mine from Atlanta Hobby, they were out of stock again. This is actually an investment - someday I'm going to retire, and I'll want (and probably need) an additional source of income beyond social security. With the new proposed regulations the FAA has come up with, it will be a lot easier to use drones for commercial photography. I'll leave the deliveries to Amazon! I've seen a ton of videos about the Inspire - here are a few of the best: Flite Test's Review Adam Savage from the Mythbusters Flies his. I know the Mythbusters have at least two of them.. Good Morning America and Eric Cheng from DJI flew two of them over a volcano in Iceland. Both drones returned safely. If you watch, you'll see the lead drone flying at about a 30-degree angle due to the high winds. Anyway, I'm hoping to get her in the air as soon as the crummy weather cuts me some slack! LOL Videos and photos coming soon.. Uh, oh..... Here come the Girls...... Yes, AR, it's very pretty.... and it's white and black, not blue and gold.... No, G4, you can't attach missiles to it...... Stop drooling Ranpha, it's hard on the motors, and we may need it to rescue Dan after you and Betty sent him into orbit.... :-D Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for putting me in the art charts again! You rock!!

wow! The test flight video with Adam Savage was very good and the fact the there is a voice (G4's?) stating the limits was very good & cool! Congrats and I hope to see some really cool video what would really be cool is to have a second operator with you on the new one and a third person operating your quad and take movies AND have some shots of each one taking movies of the other.

Hmmm, see your second comment on that last image my dear ;) Oh, you'll be able to get some very nice aerial shots of landscapes and sunsets/rises with this Rod. I'd watched the volcano in Iceland one. That's amazing footage. Must have been pretty hot up there!

Now that looks like a machine for a Star Wars Empire Trooper. Just look at that robust machine. It looks massive next to the Phantom.

I had no idea as to what the model implied not being knowledgeable on drones. really a great drone and I look forward to seeing the results

COOL!!!!... great looking new drone! and she's even bigger than the phantom!! Oh I can't wait to see the videos from this drone... Watched the videos, that drone is cool, and fast!! would like one but to much for me right now!!... plus I'd never be able to use it... Ranpha would confiscate it and do who knows what to it.. Great new toy, and I can see you'll be very busy flying this all over the place!! just don't forget about the TNA girls...

From here, even a fly must have a flying license to get from one point to another. That why they stay in the public toilets, anymore... And about the few "outlaw" drones wich are flying, the government is thinking on how to "kill" them (water canon, paintball or what...) But at this time, they don't know how to let them stay up in the air while they are shot... :-p

How does it handle when hawks attack it? I've seen YouTube videos... Good luck with this new adventure.

We have a lot of red-tailed hawks in this part of the country - and I've had them take an interest in my Phantom a few times, but they've never attacked it. I usually bring it down when they get too interested. If a hawk was to get into those props, both bird and drone are gonna come down, and rather quickly! I don't want to crash a drone (they're a bit pricey), but I don't want to hurt the raptor, either. The Inspire is bigger, and a bit more imposing than the Phantom - and it'll do 60 MPH in a pinch. It flew for the first time today, and I did see a hawk flying nearby. But apparently the hawk wasn't interested (or was a bit intimidated by the large, buzzing thing), and flew off in the opposite direction, leaving that bit of the sky to me. :-D

Ah! One of those.. These things are now banned from al;l Royal Parks and open spaces in London.. Also within a certain distance of any operating airport as some di** heads decided to fly one these into Heathrow airspace nearly causing a crash.. I can't believe they are legal, in today's world.. Any terrorist can get one fly in near whatever with a camera and there, he has all the pictures he needs without going near it.. I mean, seriously? Idea great! Reality stupid. Neat shot Rod, honestly nothing against you.. Rob

As with any new or existing technology, there will be those who abuse it. Look at computers... Hardly a day goes by where you don't read about some bank, movie studio, credit bureau, or even intelligence agency being hacked by one of the unwashed underbelly of society. And there are always a few idiots that, apparently, were born without the least semblance of common sense who will do stupid things just because they can. You DON'T fly these things around airports or anywhere else a full-size, manned aircraft is likely to operate. Any normal 4th-grader is smart enough to know that. You don't fly over a football stadium packed with 20,000 people. You damn sure don't fly over a military installation. Just plain common sense - and the sad thing is it's the idiots that do stupid stuff that f##k it up for the rest of us who want to use this technology for creative purposes. And if we pack up our drones, out model airplanes, our cameras, our computers, our guns, or whatever else we enjoy doing just because "the terrorists might..." then the terrorists have already won.
