Description

If you were here I would tell you the things I never said, but I know if you were here I could not tell them to you. March 7, 2006 my mother has flown away. I often stop to remember and I realize how many things I could not tell her.

a very powerful image, Giuliano, filled with a sense of the un-speakable...something one can't speak (as you say), the ineffable or "irrimediabile"...we think, sometimes, that when someone leaves us for good, we'll suddenly "find words" that we couldn't speak when they were with us. But we only find that the words are even further away...Your mother's portrait (from 1940) haunts this image. And your seated male seems so connected to her, yet so far away. He's all silver and blue-grays, while she's in pinks and sepias and browns (he's rendered in introspective cool tones, while she's shown in warmer earthen tones). And he's covered with elaborate ornament---something out of the metal work of the Middle Ages. Or from some ancient carvings, filled with old, difficult meanings. It's amazing that you covered this man with ornament---to me, it feels like the ornament is coming from 'inside' him, as he ponders his mother. As if the ornament was what he wants to say to his mother, but can't. And he sits on an old, beautifully leather-bound book, as if he's sitting upon a treasure of the past, perhaps containing great words, itself. Your composition is fine too, with the two-toned walls behind him, and the light on her portrait. I've been re-reading Petrarca recently. (The Rime Sparse/Canzionere.) It feels like Petrarca wants to put so many feelings into words, but he can't; so he creates ocean of words, trying...(O poggi, o valli, o fiumi, o selve, o campi/O testimon de la mia grave vita...) Your image feels that way. It's silent, but it overflows with unspoken passions. Maybe all that ornament is this man's personal canzionere, his personal songs to his mother. A very powerful image, Giuliano, and another of your deep inner journeys. I'll comment more when my arm is healed, but this is a beautiful, powerful image.

A very touching tribute to your mother, Giuliano, and beautiful image. I lost my mother in 2001. Never forget, my friend, as long as you keep your mother in your heart and speak of her, a part of her still lives.

Basing on the historical facts, it looks we will have opportunity, to see each other in the better world. (if we are worthy the light or the darkness). Nice and emotional artwork. Have faith in Messiah, have faith in Jesus. He never failed me and there's a truth in His words.
