This is fascinating, because the change in colour from warm to cold, instantly makes it more dangerous!

the deep blue sky in contrast to the more somber walls of the buildings looks fantastic.

This one is definitely more stylized than the previous one, breaking down in some parts to almost pure abstraction or at least a comic graphic novel kind of look. Both shots have a lot of depth & character to them & I like them both, can't really pick a favorite among them...

I would not care to be in an alley in downtown Dallas at night. good you braved the inherent danger of what can lurk there to share this superb capture

Oooh, a Blue Hour alley shot! And that alley looks familiar: well, Chicago's more central alleys all have a certain something in common! They always seem so busy, either with visual excitement, or people moving things in the back way, or simply...well...busy. This one has that quality, despite the absence of people and moving trucks and kitchen staff popping out back for a quick, probably very illicit smoke. What really grabs me is the shift in color. The cool blues and the harder, crisp light really gives this a cooler vibe, as if it's seasonally different from the one before. It's funny how that works: a slightly different focus, a slightly different color arrangement and suddenly you've got a totally different photograph, though the buildings do seem slightly different, if only because of 1 or 2 steps taken. And I love it. The long/wide crop of this photo gives it the feeling of a panorama and yet the alley itself contains the image between the walls on either side. Ah...Chicago alleys are good at that! And it's also good the way that this image is making me think of "Chicago" authors like Aleksandar Hemon and Nelson Algren; this image seems to have more in common with Hemon...there's something quirky to be discovered like a freshly-arrived-upon-the-American-shore Bosnian discovering Burger King for the first time, or getting arrested because he's wants to finish his cigarette before leaving Starbucks. OK...maybe not, but still...this is an evocative image! I love the way that it lends itself to so many cinematic interpretations. This is brilliant. Feel free to do more!

Oh, good, I can see what's left of the snow in this one. And, rats, Chipka stole my thunder with his mini novel, but let me add that this version has more of a nonthreatening aspect to it, appearing brighter and happier than your number one presentation, Mark. I don't follow durleybeachbum's reasoning in claiming the change in color temperature makes this version more dangerous than the first. In fact, I feel a lot safer with this one. Plus, I like the repetition, depth and perspective of the image. And, thank you for the congratulations on my making Gallery of the Month photog…..apparently, a statement no one above followed up on in their comments.

Mark, I dont know how you do it, but it fascinates me, how you can bring out the street lamps light so beautifully, that it is not to ignor. It really gives a fantastic mood. I really love this shot and what you did to it. I love the colors and the deep shadows and the grainy effect too. Dont know why, but you can create grain that fits perfectly to your photos, where mine always look like a mistake. LOL! Another wonderful image !!

Mark, this is an amazing photo and my favorite so far in this series. The unique perspective of this one as well as the lighting serve to set it apart. I do hope you will consider continuing with this series as it was a great idea.

Really like the colors in this presentation. Alleys are always so interesting, with an element of danger. I haven't seen any alleys since I've lived in the mountains for the last 10 years.

These sort of alleys are a reminder of my young and wild days, when I lived in Sydney and we were leaving the nightclub scene walking home from King's Cross, because no taxis were to be found and the crack of dawn was almost upon us ... ahh, what glory days they were ... walking home was a good thing - working off all those cocktails, if you hadn't done so on the dance floor already ? - thank heavens the next day was a Sunday and one could sleep in !!! All this is possible to see here in your artistry of a photo manipulation "extraordinaire" - and you know already, how much I loved the 'BROWN' one ;)) thinking it was James Dean walking away ... (in the original photo, he was slightly hunched over, because it was so cold and he wore a heavy winter coat, with a cigarette hanging from his lips, in NY city) anyhow this is BRILLIANT work Mark. BB Hope your arm is not giving you too much grieve ? don't rush to get back to us, we are always here ... thinking of you and wishing you well and take care! I will comment more later, or sooner if I can find more time ;P
