Description

The whisper of a dry leaf across concrete is its own kind of poetry, even which such a leaf and such concrete might be found in the more dubious regions of a city. Strange are the ways of leaves and of wind: they have so little to do with human concerns, and yet they are often surprising enhancements. I found this leaf (a long time ago) because of its whisper across concrete. I clasped it, gently, by its stem, took it home, and photographed it on the back of a notebook. There’s story hidden in this image: a story (written partly by hand) some number of centimeters beneath the leaf as you see it here. The leaf is now gone, but its memory and its image remain. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

I truly enjoy your unique perspective of the world around you. I would never have seen the leaf skittering across the ground in it's mysterious pursuit of some unknown destination.

Wow, simple and elegant with great use of both shadows and negative space to accentuate the positive beauty of the leaf. A fine use of complimentary warm colors and yet also a fine play on contrasting textures, with the fine grained sandpaper of cardboard playing off against the ruff, rugged and coarse patter of the leaf. The deep shadow gives a sense of impending movement, like it is either just about to land or it is rising up to catch a gust of air and to once again float in the breeze... I get a sense of longing to be somewhere else, to be on the go again, not to be tied down to the flat and uniform surface it now inhabits.

Wonderful simplicity and I do love the poetic way you see things from mother nature. You are so good at expressing it with words. :-)

Just looking at an image such as this can make you wonder at the genius of it all - life on this world. And not just in the subtle, mathematical complexity of the structure of this former leaf - which is resplendent in this shot. But also how leaves and other green life are contrived to do the most absurdly wonderful thing of all, eat light. And through them almost everything else on this planet gets to live. This leaf has no doubt earned the immortality you've granted it with your camera.

Whilst it would occur to me to produce an image like this, I would create the leaf in a 3D modelling application, and then render it with appropriate materials and lighting. This is of course far more simple, and authentic, and striking.
