Description
Captured 1/7/15, early morning, in front of the Southern California Edison substation, approximately 1.25 miles from my harrowing haunt.
Here we have an unfortunate woman and man, ensconced between their earthly belongings, shown possibly reflecting on how they ever reached this situation in life. I don't know if the trash on the right of the image is also theirs. During the day, they either sit there communing with nature, or sit on bus benches, or go pushing their mountainous stuff around the city in shopping carts. At night, they sleep either at this spot or in some business doorway along the boulevard. As far as their daily sustenance and answering the call of nature are concerned, I have no idea.
Bye bye.

Very Sad

Sad indeed; lots of homeless here all over the place. Excellent documentation, Harry.

It's a very sad & unfortunate phenomena of modern life - that in a society in which we have the super rich who have more money than any reasonable person could possibly need - & who fight tooth & nail against any attempt to increase their taxes by one penny - there are people who are reduced to living like this. Most are unemployable for various reasons (even if there were enough jobs to go around, which there aren't) & it's shameful that they have to live like this...

I do not think that these poor people have deserved to be photographed as you did, their fate is the threat to anyone who lives in these modern capitalist societies, where greed trumps human solidarity ... there is no more in the lives of interesting people than others, there are only people more or less at ease matériellement.L'arrogance money still talks the risk of social conflicts !!!

Oh, contraire! What poppycock. Tell that to Diane Arbus, the world famous photographer, who entered slums and snapped pathetic individuals in much worse straits than these. How about the poor and subjugated Africans and Middle Easteners, they are/were photographed just like the victims of the WWII Holocaust. Should they have been recorded? How about those individuals who are the victims of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, dust bowls, etc? I see their pictures quite often. You are so naive, mon ami. Who ever said that life was fair? And, what's with all this anticapitalism rant? I believe these poor souls deserved to be photographed just like any other mortals in the world, i.e., astronauts, athletes, movie actors, television notables, politicians, killers, terrorists, philanthropists, billionaires, aviators, clowns, inventors, scientists, Joe-six-pack, tourists, the clergy, the military, moguls, dictators, parades, royalty, et al. Sorry, claude19, but, unless posted otherwise, I will continue capturing whatever and whoever I want. Let freedom ring! Amen.

It is indeed sad that we have people who must resort to life outdoors as these people have had to do. While it is true some resort to this due to psychological conditions; many are just forced here due to circumstances which may have just suddenly become overwhelming. I'm tired of the people who blame capitalism for this -- blame greed for it, certainly -- capitalism has nothing to do with it as we can see the same scenario under every other economic system out there which has ever been tried. Blame cronyism too, the rewarding of, and doling out of our hard-earned taxes to politicians campaign contributors... Solyndra is one good example which comes to mind. The fact is, as long as people are corruptible, under all forms of economies people will also suffer this sort of thing; people are the flaw in every system ever used. We were the wealthiest nation at one time, but instead of taking care of our own interests/people at home, we allowed our government to squander it, over tax and over regulate the means which provided it, and give the rest of it all away with their friends/family and potential voter plans. Wonderful photo Harry! It gives us reason to be thankful for those simplest of things we may have; and as well, should inspire us to be a little more compassionate to those like them. After all, it's been reported than many are only one missed paycheck away from joining them. Sorry for my rant.

This is the reality and you show us bluntly. Also here, the gap between rich and poor is widening. I feel sorry for that people and I wish nobody to come in such a situation. A great shot!
