Description
A Japanese spider crab, taken at the Newport Aquarium on the Oregon coast. These crabs are huge - their leg span from claw to claw can reach 12 feet & they can weigh up to 42 pounds. Though they may look a little scary, they have gentle dispositions. The purplish color is due to the lighting in the tank - they actually are orange colored like the stereotypical crab...

So very interesting! It's amazing how much a scabies mite under the microscope this looks.

A great capture under the circumstances.

Excellent capture - the intensity of the color is enjoyable as is the monochromatic effect.

What Nightmares are made of... yet graceful beauty as well. Nicely shot.

Eerie and almost alien; I can't imagine something with claws that big, it seems a bit intimidating. Glad to hear they are gentle! Very cool shot of the underside of this beast!
