Description

Scotland, Isle of Skye Before we left the island we noticed a ring around the sun although it was not raining. So I think it was a halo also known as a nimbus, icebow or gloriole which is an optical phenomenon produced by light interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere, resulting in a wide variety of colored or white rings, arcs and spots in the sky. Thanks a lot for all welcome comments! ;o)

These phenomena are also called 'sun dogs' here in the states. We see them usually in late fall and early spring. Very good capture of a ring which is somewhat rare.

This is truly a beautiful, one in a million capture! Not often one comes by something like this..... makes me think of a 'ring of fire'. The silhouettes of all those trees around are most inspirational as well!
