Description

One of the many lizards that roam around our property. When I brought this photo up large on my monitor, I was surprised to see that it was resting on what seems to be the equivalent of our palms, with it's claws up in the air - rather than gripping the wood with it's claws, as I would have expected... Please zoom.

I suspect Mike is close to the answer. No need to hold on if you are on a flat surface. If you are gripped you have to start from a dead and fixed position. This guy can now slam his paws down and use that momentum to launch himself in any direction he needs to go. He is taut like a stretched rubber band. There is evident tension in this shot.

Stellar contrast and POV in this Close Up of Claws Up, resting on the heels of its tiny talons, Claude, perhaps to let the nail polish dry in the warm sun.

Drying nail polish - good one! I award it the most hilarious explanation award, Harry.

I've got a similiar fellow hanging around in an outside building, and he must be over 12 inches long. Glad to have him around, but sure wish the Horny Toads would return to the area. Yours doe not appear to be as skitish as my little fellow.

I actually saw one of these this afternoon in the skeleton of a crown of thorns bush - not as lucky as you - I did not have my camera. The old log might have been to hot for him!
