Description

Returning to the Quiraing in the Trotternish Mountains on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. These three peaks are called The Prison because from a certain view they look like a medieval castle's keep. The muddied brown areas are the result of landslides, a process very active at this site and responsible for much of the detailed structure, though obviously tectonic uplift has created these three peaks. During the Devonian, in a day you could walk from this spot to Labrador, Canada with no more than a pair of gumboots. I've never seen a bad shot of the Quiraing, the landscape is just so spectacular and the greens so vibrant that you cannot go amiss. Best seen full size. Previous Quiraing

Wow, that's a pretty spectacular view and very otherworldly looking if you look closely at the hills and their details. It's like they have eyes...sort of primordial amphibian like eyes watching you passively. It might be interesting to try to bring those out some. That back one's had a lot of sliding, hasn't it? Looks a little more 'naked' than the front ones too - which probably is why. It gets eroded more. Cool image, Roxy and thank you so much for sharing these! I love seeing places like this :)

You're too modest - I'm sure it's easy to take a bad shot. I really like the rich, saturated color in the foreground that gradually fades in layers towards the background - reminiscent of Renaissance paintings (like the Mona Lisa, to name a famous example). That turbulent stormy sky completes this image perfectly. Makes me want to take a trip to visit this dramatic terrain...

Holy Frack! I mean HOLY FRACK!! This doesn't even look like it should be on this planet - what an amazing, spectacular, breathtaking place! I think I'd be so overwhelmed if this were in front of me, I'd forget I had a camera..... or maybe not. More likely you'd have to knock me out and drag me away from here - if you didn't want to wait until I ran out of SD cards. And that's just with my ground-based camera.... I can only imagine what this would look like from the air... And what you have done here, Roxy.... I can't even come up with the words to do this justice - so I'll just sit here and immerse myself in this magnificent image. Wow.....

This is superb - I really like the sharp details and colors - both you took right up to the edge of over processed but on this image it looks spectacular!!!

It's a tad over-processed for my taste, but the composition IMHO is first rate....and the scenery is just stunning. Well done. Andrew

Gorgeous! Beautiful geology. I love the strata and the tilt of the pushed up land. Your post work certainly enhances the detail and adds a certain magic to the scene. Fantastic shot and work.
