Description

Vanessa atalanta. I have seen Red Admirals all winter in ones and twos in the sunshine, but this was the first to be snapped in my garden this year. 1st March 2015 just after my breakfast and hers!

A real beauty. You are so lucky. In the last twenty years the population of Monarch butterflies in North America has dropped 90%. I remember them from my childhood but have not seen one in years except for a local preserve. Don't tell our politicians it has anything to do with our impact on the earth though. You'll be called a socialist.

At current temperatures here (today 18°C) I even saw the first butterflies this year. Hope spring comes soon. A fantastic close up of this beautiful Admiral.
