Description
Pano taken of the River Thames with Barnes Railway Bridge on the left. The original Barnes Bridge was built in 1849 designed by Joseph Locke, its replacement (current bridge seen here) was built in 1895, designed by Edward Andrews. Barnes bridge is made of three spans of wrought iron bow string girders that carry two railway tracks, including a pedestrian footpath.
Barnes bridge is usually known in relation to the annual Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race. They say which ever boat is ahead at the bridge will win the race!
