Now reimagine that one JJ Abrams, I double dare you! Original mesh by Raul Mamoru from the STMC website, this one is the poserised version by Mattymanx, which renders okay in DAZ studio. Star Trek as you doubtless know is copyright of Paramount Studios and probably Mr Abrams and wasn't invented by me, but by Gene Roddenberry whose wife voiced all those computers etc.
Anyway, the Doomsday Machine had a kind of visceral charm that appealed to my tiny wee self as I watched it unfold- half wrecked star ships, a Captain Ahab type character and the vicious planet killer itself. Now this thing really upped the ante- blowing up entire worlds and then vacuuming up the pieces for its supper. How cool is that? Shame it had to pick on inhabited planets- must be enough cosmic rubbish out there to keep a million year old alien doomsday weapon happy surely?
Never mind- its Wednesday- halfway through the week. Happy Hangover day to all St Patrick's day people.

One of my faves too.....refreshing for not featuring another M class planet for some red shirts to die on...The FX worked well in this one too.....the Enterprise was always a bit 'jerky' in flight but as this appeared to be barely moving the lighting FX looked brill!

Really glad I took the time to come all the way back here to check this out. Yup, 'The Doomsday Machine' is very memorable. I believe this is the only story from the classic series which depicts the Enterprise in all out combat for the entirety of the story. Though one has to wonder why no one in the long past thought of setting off an anti-matter explosion inside the machine to destroy it. Then again, maybe it was originally invulnerable to that means as well but its great age had at last weakened it. Excellent work, the scales always did it for me. The Federation starships, often depicted as whole cities in space, dwarfed and made puny by the Planet Killer.
