A weekend off. How long has it been since she last heard that phrase apply to her? She couldn't remember, at least not for the moment.
For the last several months Patricia Kathleen Randall was on call dealing with all sorts of criminal scum and the alien fox species Melani, whose diplomatic immunity status seemed to imply that they could run roughshod over her duty to protect citizens of Chicago.
But for a brief time, she could forget about all of that. Her "duty" then, it seemed, was to housesit for a friend who went out of town with her latest suitor. To Vegas, of all places.
"I can't housesit, Carolyn," Patricia remembered saying mid-week. "Just looking at your place reminds me that I still have to unpack from my move."
"Come on Pat! It's been what, a month since you moved?!"
"Lyn. You think it was MY idea to move when I didn't have vacay scheduled? I was pretty much forced to move when the landlord insisted on renovating the apartment. It was preferable to moving out of the building."
"Come on Pat, do this for me please? At least you can chill out here where there aren't any packed boxes and takeout all over the place. And check out the new pool!"
"Okay, okay. But you need to help me get my apartment in order like you did your house. Whenever I get another weekend off. Hopefully."
After putting away groceries (and wondering if she would like her own cooking for once), Patricia went to a lounger poolside and just chilled.
Something she really wasn't used to.

Takes place before the Paklet ever showed up, of course.
True story: I had to move out of my old apartment when the landlord was intent on renovating it. It was good in one way because the plumbing was out of whack, bad in another that I didn't (and STILL don't) have time to get things set up in the new place. Always try to move when you have vacation scheduled.
Suggested soundtrack: "The Other Side" - Tocurato Mariano

Fabulous work on the scene - I understand her situation mine is a bit worse though in that when I moved out, I had no place to go, so effectively, I became one of the homeless crowd - all my stuff is in storage
