Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Oh, I'm very late with birthday wishes and a dedication, but then I tend to miss my own birthday too! As for this: well...it's a priceless capture! I love the randomness of signs when they're taken out of the context of their surroundings...I mean, yeah, we know it's a sign, but still, it makes me think of the opening title of some 1970s era tv show...one of those good, surreal bits of televisual entertainment that no one actually saw. As a birthday dedication, it's marvelous and I love the sense of color. That's such a clear, blue sky too!

as I've said to you many times, your shots have a life all their own, that 'marilyn' vision that only you have. And when you do this to them, they become a big dance. Chip's dead on, how signs become so random when taken out of their context, they become so strange and free floating. This thing IS a cartoon, it's like a big Pop Art cutout against a big deep blue sky (nice contrast with the reds in that crazy boat). You gave me a piece of your unique vision, a big dance, and I love it. And "Pier 43 1/2"? Maybe that's a common number for piers, I don't know---but coming from the midwest, the "1/2" sounds really funny! Like someone was painting "Pier 43" and decided, "hell, no one's looking, wtf..." I love it. Also, as a photographer, your crop makes it look like the ship's on a tripod! I love this shot. Thank you so much Marilyn, a shot of Marilyn-dance and seeing the world through totally fresh eyes...a great gift for my birthday. And it doesn't matter if you're late, it just extends the day. (Hey, it's SNOWING here, and heavily! SPRING is late, so don't worry one bit.) I love this image. Thank you---a wonderful gift for my birthday!
